Botox for the treatment of DM?
I am currently lockjaw "as a result of years of gnashing of teeth. I can put two fingers in his mouth and that's all. My diet and even my speech was made by my inability to open mouth that my last two fingers wide. I have no dental insurance, but I was wondering if doses of Botox injected into the muscles of the jaw to help alleviate the "locked" the muscles enough to open his mouth again. Should I talk to a dentist or plastic surgeon?
When my jaw University "Locked Up" as well. I could not even hold a spoon in his mouth. I I drank through a straw for about two weeks. I was told that taking high doses of Motrin every 6-8 hours to try to get the swelling. I think even perscribed relaxing muscle. It has helped some, but certainly not a panacea. I do not think Botox was popular at the time that it was not an option for me. Call your dentist before to keep up with treatment options and guide you in the right direction. (On the side, I lost 10 pounds when my jaw locked) Good luck.
