There are so many brands out here and I tried to pick the best one at a descent price. It has no by-products, no fillers, no beef, no corn or wheat, and is all natural. I got the lamb and rice formula. My dog has really dry skin and I’m hoping this food will make her coat better. Any experience with this brand?
The only bad thing I saw about purina one is that it has corn in it and its the 4th ingredient. I was told to stay away from the foods with corn due to it causing health and joint problems over time.

Nature’s REcipe is okay. It does have several ingredients that I would never have in the food I feed: lamb digest, tomato pomace, and yucca. However, it is decent. My only question is WHY are you feeding lamb??? chicken is the best source of protein for dogs. You should only feed other meat sources if there is an allergy to poultry. By feeding lamb your dog is not absorbing as much protein as it should be.
…but you really don’t need to change if your dog is doing well. If you want to find a better quality food try Innova which is the best food on the market. If you can’t get Innova, look for Wellness, Solid Gold, Merrick, Canidae, Fromm, Evolve, etc.
Mary G, Purina One is a HORRIBLE food. I can’t believe you feel it is the best AND claim that you read pet food labels!???
Here are the ingredients of Purina One:
-CHICKEN (okay but this is 70% water, you should see chicken meal)
-BREWERS RICE (this is a rice fraction and offers no nutritional value)
-CORN GLUTEN MEAL (corn should never be used in pet foods because they can’t digest it, a cheap filler)
-POULTRY BY-PRODUCT MEAL (this is the feet, beaks, feathers, organs, etc of the….? Unspecificed poutltry, who knows what your getting)
-WHOLE GRAIN CORN (again, no corn!)
-WHOLE GRAIN WHEAT (wheat is the same as corn, it should never be used in pet foods)
-ANIMAL FAT (animal is a generic term used for ingredients from a rendering plant, this includes roadkill, euthanized pets, diseased farm animals, expired grocery store meats, etc…gross)
-NON FAT YOGURT (ah, a good ingredient…but so far down the list???)
-ANIMAL DIGEST (this is the stomach contents of an unidentified animal similar to animal fat)
-SALT (salt should never be in pet foods, it increases the risk of heart disease)
Purina One is disgusting. The only good ingredient is the first one but once this food is cooked, you have to remember that all of the water will be removed from the chicken. Making this food more rice and corn than anything…it is a gimmick companies use to make you think the food is mostly chicken…wrong!
Okay, now take a look at Innova which is the best quality dog food on the market:

Innova Evo is by far one of the best foods. It contains fresh, human grade meat as the first four ingredients with protein also being the sixth and ninth ingredient. There are NO fillers, by-products, unidentified ingredients, etc.
If you can honestly, after looking at these two foods still claim that Purina One is the best food, you have a lot to learn about pet nutrition.
It looks pretty good because meat is the first ingredient and it’s soy and BHT free. However, the first ingredient is lamb meal, which isn’t as good as plain lamb.
Here is a link to another good, reasonable price food.

Purina ONE is available everywhere. It’s about $18 for a 20 pound bag. It’s what I feed and I have goldens which are prone to allergies and one of them also has epilepsy.
For dry skin you might add flax or fish oil to her food. That usually helps for that too.
I have had lots of good experience with Nature’s Recipe. Our dog is a super picky eater and that’s the only thing she will eat.
